In many designs you have global content that is the same on every page. However this may need to be changed occasionally. This is accomplished using the CMS content editor as previously shown. With a single change of the content of a global area all the pages are updated.
In this design the global areas are the top right, the message at the Top Left and the Right Column.

News is a special Global area allowing news articles to be summarized and then provide a link to a full page. See the example on this page.
